Huatian Awarded Hydrogen Gas Turbine Innovation Demonstration Project

Approximately one year of continuous grid-connected operation on pure and hydrogen-rich fuels

Containerised generating capacity supporting renewable-heavy grids.

WUXI, China — Huatian Gas Turbine has been awarded an innovation demonstration project by a major state-owned energy group, taking its hydrogen-capable gas turbine technology from laboratory result into long-duration grid-connected operation.
The project runs inside the owner’s existing integrated wind–solar–hydrogen–ammonia–methanol industrial park and combines green-power direct-connection microgrid technology with Huatian’s established combustion work. The machine will undergo approximately one year of continuous grid-connected operation, verifying long-term stability, reliability, safety and engineering adaptability through sustained grid connection and multi-condition testing.
Huatian’s existing pure-hydrogen combustor, developed through pre-research with a national oil and gas major, uses diffusion-type hydrogen combustion with a hydrogen blending range of 0 to 100 percent and combustion efficiency of not less than 99 percent. This project moves the question from whether the machine can burn hydrogen to whether every system on it can run safely and continuously on pure hydrogen while meeting grid connection requirements — against autoignition, flashback, thermoacoustic oscillation, NOx control and hot-section durability, plus starting, run-up, load regulation, synchronisation and safety interlocks.

Thermal spray coating of a hot-section component — the process behind the ceramic thermal barrier protection used on high-hydrogen and sour-gas duty.

The company’s technology roadmap uses 2 MW and 10 MW class gas turbines as the primary validation platforms for pure-hydrogen, hydrogen-rich and hydrogen-blended demonstration.
Recent awards also include a six-unit order for offshore platform associated gas utilisation from a state-owned energy enterprise — direct utilisation of high hydrogen sulphide associated gas in a marine environment, combining anti-corrosion blade coatings, ceramic thermal barrier protection and optimised combustion control.

Offshore production platform. Associated gas utilisation is a separate six-unit award.
